Chelmsford Mile of Miles, Writtle College 9th August 2020

Havering endurance athletes got back to proper head-to-head racing on Sunday as Chelmsford AC hosted a pilot event under strictly controlled conditions in sweltering weather at Writtle University College.

It was a different experience for athletes with each mile race of six runners on a looped course around the Writtle campus, with “no overtaking” zones on narrow parts of the course, but with over 300 athletes from Under 13s to veterans in 55 races over a six hour programme it was one that proved a great success.

Natalie Sewell and Maddie Barker led the way in the Under 17 age group, taking firs tand second and Hannah Yexley’s heat win was the fifth fastest in the age group.

Freddie Rowe was the fastest of the Under 13 boys and Sam Burdett was 17th.Ryan Carroll in 11th led home a quartet of Under 15 boys, with Daniel Lammas 17th, Joseph Gray 24th & Toby Johnson 25th in the heatwave conditions.
