VIDEO: Council introduce new measures to support our high streets.

The Conservative Council in Havering has launched a new package to support the borough’s high streets following the lock down challenges faced.

Today new measures are being put into place to help high streets across Havering begin their recovery process after weeks of retail outlets being closed due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

The measures include the extending of free street parking from thirty minutes to one hour, providing a twenty percent discount in car parks, the abolishment of Sunday parking charges and Romford market now running on a Sunday.

Havering Leader of the Council Councillor Damian White told the Havering Daily: “We are committed to helping our high streets and have significantly increased the level of support. We are working on a multi-million-pound investment scheme to work with high streets across the borough.”

The measures include:

Extending of free street car parking from 30 mins to 1 hour.

Creating additional bays across the borough.

Giving residents a 20% discount in car parking when parking the Covid secure way using either the phone or parking app.

Abolish parking charges on Sunday.

Providing more safety signs across the borough to encourage residents to stay 2 metres apart.

Introduce free parking for health workers and care workers called free parking for Havering Heroes during the pandemic.

Councillor White finished by saying: “This goes over and above what other London boroughs have done to support their high streets. We are totally committed to offering the best support to our different towns and their high streets and this is the first phase of a whole package.”

The video is promoted by the Conservative Party and not the Council. The video also fails to mention additional on street parking bays and care workers. Is this being made up as they go along?
