Sculpture of thanks to the NHS

To say thank you to the NHS for saving so many people’s lives during the Coronavirus outbreak, Havering Colleges’Electrical Installation teacher Otis Griffith has created a metal sculpture in his free time during the lockdown.

The artwork has been so well received by staff at King George Hospital, it is set to be displayed on a special feature wall at the hospital buildings in Goodmayes.

Otis, who works at the college campus in Ardleigh Green, Hornchurch, has been creating metal sculptures for around 25 years and was inspired to make this one after taking part in the regular Clapping for the NHS on a Thursday evening.

He said: “Building metal sculptures is my passion – as well as teaching! I wanted to do something to show appreciation for all the hard-working NHS staff, so I set myself a challenge.

“I’m really pleased the hospital liked it so much. The sculpture will be unveiled at the hospital in the coming weeks.”
