Five-year-old Owen Johnson from Collier Row is definitely one of Havering’s heroes. He has raised over a thousand pounds for the NHS by shaving his head.
Sarah, Owen’s mum told the Havering Daily: “He kept asking me when he could go back to school and when this would all be over. So I told him when the virus goes and that he could also help fight the virus. So he decided to shave his hair off to help beat the virus by raising money for all the doctors and nurses at Queen’s hospital.
“We started making little videos to help him understand what is going on at the moment. He’s a very happy little boy and its really great to share his happiness with the community.”
Sarah asked Owen how much money he wanted to raise for the doctors and nurses and Owen replied £100. So Sarah launched the just giving page and raised £100 within twenty minutes.
“We were gobsmacked! We couldn’t believe we raised that amount in just 20 minutes.”
Owen has now raised an incredible £1279 for the NHS staff at Queen’s hospital.
Owen who attends Crownfield Infant school wasn’t quite sure about his new hairstyle after shaving his head off but has now grown to like it.
“He wasn’t quite sure at first but he is happy with it now,” continued Sarah.
“We are really proud of him, he is an amazing little boy who has kept us going during this lockdown despite being indoors 24/7.“
Well done Owen! You are a Havering Hero.
