Youth Unity Event, June 2020
Shirely Jackson from Youth Unity writes today for the Havering Daily.
Youth Unity is 30 weeks away and we have been busy working in the background to ensure we deliver the best possible festival. So before Christmas takes hold of our lives and we start on the mince pies please take a moment to read just SOME of the amazing things coming to Havering next June 2020.
We are so excited about this next one as we are collaborating and working alongside lots of amazing companies and organisations which will help make this festival one of the best YOUTH festival not just in the borough but across London which will be firm proof that by working together great things can happen!
If you are a budding footballer and just waiting to be discovered then get your team down as we have scouts from major premiership clubs attending officially!! www.youthunity.org/football
Havering Council have been incredibly supportive of this initiative and its with their support we will be able to grow this festival year on year and work to develop a better understanding of our youth and our every changing communities.
Its now officially confirmed that Mi-Soul Radio are on board to help promote and of course deliver great music. More collaborations from The Crib and YoungUrban Arts who will work to deliver the main stage with young emerging artists supported by well known artists all working to help empower and uplift our youth.
We also announced recently that Time1075 are also on board and have been from the offset, watch out as we will be popping in to see them from time to time with special guests talking about the amazing organisations that will be coming to exhibit and show off their great work on the day.
As for music, everyone will be blown away, Jumpin Jack Frost & award winning MC CKP are our ambassadors for the project and are actively helping us to promote the great work that so many grass root organisation are doing not just to help our youth but to develop our communities. Youth Unity is also a day to celebrate these people and give them a platform to shine brightly as too often they work in isolation with little recognition and we want to change that, we want to be the place they come to once a year in a fun relaxed atmosphere and make friends, share ideas and build collaborations to build long term solutions.
Most importantly YOUTH UNITY is a project, not just a festival, this is a chance for us to signpost and show our young people that there are great opportunities, and there are also places to get help!
‘Code1’, a new project which is about forming friendships from across different postcodes and boroughs, will be leading on a parent and young person drop in ‘tent’. We need to work to bring our communities back to what they once were, a community that cares and shows love.
Mental Health is also something we will be be featuring on the day as its incredibly important and Havering Mind are working with us to deliver this in the best possible way. We plan to also include young people with disabilities as all youth should take part regardless of ability and reaching out to organisations to get involved.
Sports will also be a major part of the day, with over 80 teams of football coming from across Essex & London to take part, and excited that we have many premiership clubs coming to talent scout officially! Boxing will also be a big part with BoxUpCrime taking the lead, more to come on this, but we are working to include lots of opportunities for our young people to take part. We are in discussions with the local Youth Engagement Sergeant who is working with us to see how they can take part on the day to form better community relations with young people.
Our management team is growing and one person that always is on call is Jon Gildersleeve, a gentleman most will know in our community, Jon helped back in 2017 when then first started at Hackney Marsh has been so helpful and looking forward to working with him on this one. But we need more volunteers, social media, admin and similar, this is a job of love and labor but very rewarding as they are helping to bring amazing people together to build solutions and unite our communities. Any volunteers working with us will get training and full references at the end which could help with employment.
This years event was blessed to have so much support from local businesses who helped fund the event and we need theirs and others help as Youth Unity is non funded and we really SPONSORS, so please get in touch if you would like to have a stake and your brand on all our marketing and social media.
The event security will be driven by Bast Securities, who last year worked alongside Insight Risk Management at no cost which is an amazing contribution.
If any organisation or group would like to have a stand on the day please get in touch admin@youthunity.org and we will send a booking form and more information.
That’s the update for now.
