Havering Bin Men Strike Starts As Workers Take To The Picket Line.
Havering’s bin strike began yesterday as workers gathered outside FCC’s Elm Park site.

Unite, the union representing the striking workers, says it wants to reach an agreement with FCC and bring the dispute to an end. However, the union has criticised the company’s approach and called for negotiations to resolve the issues.
Danny Hoggan, Unite Regional Officer, said FCC had brought in workers from other council contracts rather than negotiating with workforce representatives from Unite. He said some had travelled considerable distances, including drivers who came from East Lothian in Scotland.
Mr Hoggan said:
“FCC rather than negotiating with the workforce representatives from Unite they brought in workers from other FCC Council contracts.
“The furthest drivers came all the way from East Lothian in Scotland.
“The company would rather put someone up in a hotel for a week than treat locals with dignity and respect.
“Havering Council must realise that people living in the borough are going to struggle to make ends meet on £12.88 an hour.
“Unite are more than willing to meet with FCC to negotiate an end to this dispute and hopefully FCC can do better than saying everything will be sorted by March 2027.”
The strike began yesterday, with workers holding a picket outside the Elm Park site as the dispute over pay and working conditions continues.
The dispute also raises questions about the impact on Havering residents if industrial action continues, with refuse collections potentially affected.
The Havering Daily has contacted FCC for comment and is awaiting a response.
