Baldock Town 0, Romford 1

Flynn Hamilton followed up his equaliser in the first game by scoring the only goal of the replay to send Romford into the next round of the FA Cup and give them an away tie against Harleston Town.

Hamilton’s goal came in the 80^th minute of the contest as he dived to meet Fabio Vieira’s cross from the right and head past Baldock goalkeeper Sam Galatis. It was a rare moment of quality in a game that was otherwise uninspiring, especially in the first half during which the most noteworthy incidents were the three yellow cards issued in just over thirty minutes after the start.

Baldock’s Sam O’Nions was first in the book as he pulled back Fabio Vieira after only three minutes. Mark Adofo joined him after 24 minutes for a midfield foul, and Boro’s Matt Price also picked up a yellow, for a foul on the Baldock keeper.

Baldock had the better of what first half chances there were, going closest when Adofo met a corner at the far post, but put the ball wide. Romford were confined to an off-target shot by Price in a first half that featured little goalmouth action.

The tempo changed after the break with Romford looking more dangerous. Jaxon Brown latched onto a poor clearance and shot into the side netting in the first minute of the second half and then Vieira delivered a low cross from the right that caused havoc in the Baldock defence but which Boro were unable to capitalise on.

After 53 minutes Baldock fashioned a good chance when keeper Galatis launched a long ball forward that led to Ivan Machado shooting across the face of goal, but back came Boro and Alfie Osborne Flynn Hamilton’s 67^th minute free-kick with a header that Galatis was equal to, as he was to a shot from the edge of the box by Greig Stewart.

Lamar Johnson made an outstanding save from Joel Pallant’s header and when Boro cleared the ensuing corner, Greig Stewart’s long ball out of defence provided Vieira with the chance to run at the home defence and set up what proved to be the winning goal.

Next for Romford is what will be only the third Essex Senior League game of the season with Benfleet coming to Mayesbrook Park on Saturday.
