Six Officers, One Mission: The Havering Police Team Making A Big Difference In The Fight Against Crime.
They are just six officers, but the Havering Joint Task Force is making its presence hugely felt across the borough.
Funded by Havering Council and dedicated solely to policing Havering, the Joint Task Force has become an important part of the borough’s fight against crime and anti-social behaviour.
The six-officer team, led by Sergeant Tanner, works across the borough tackling a wide range of offences including vehicle crime, burglary, theft and anti-social behaviour.
Their role is not simply about responding to incidents. The team works proactively to identify offenders, disrupt criminal activity and target those believed to be responsible for crimes affecting local communities.
Residents have recently seen that work in action following the brazen robbery at Boots on Hornchurch High Street.
Following the incident, Sergeant Tanner and his team acted swiftly, intercepting a vehicle within minutes and arresting five suspects. Stolen goods worth almost £10,000 were recovered.
It was a striking example of how quickly a dedicated local team can respond when intelligence and operational policing come together.
The Joint Task Force has also been involved in the investigation into the recent wildfires across Havering.
As part of those enquiries, a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of arson and theft of a motor vehicle. He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
The work of the Joint Task Force is also reflected in its published performance figures.
At Havering’s Crime Summit in November 2025, the Council reported that the team had made more than 1,000 arrests and achieved an 80% positive outcome at court.
Previous figures have also highlighted the team’s work, including a 72% charge rate in 2023.
For Havering residents, however, the impact is perhaps best demonstrated by what happens on the streets.
When a group allegedly targets a local business, officers are able to respond quickly.
When vehicle crime is reported, the team can investigate and target those suspected of being involved.
When anti-social behaviour affects communities, the officers can focus their attention on identifying those responsible.
And when serious incidents occur, they can draw on their knowledge of the borough and work alongside other policing teams.
The Joint Task Force is a small team, but its officers have become a highly visible part of Havering’s approach to tackling crime.
For Sergeant Tanner and his team, their job is simple: identify those causing harm, disrupt criminal activity and help make Havering safer.
Six officers may not sound like a large number.
But when those six officers are focused entirely on Havering, their work can make a significant difference.
