Residents Call for Como Street Meeting in Romford.
Thirty residents from the Como St car park area have joined together to request a meeting with the new Councillors and the council’s private developer, Mercury Land Holdings.
This comes as a planning application is anticipated for September or October.
The latest proposals include a 9-storey tower on the Como Street car park site, which residents say will overlook private gardens in Linden Street and detract from the surrounding area. A majority of the nearby homes are Victorian family homes, with a historic building also present directly opposite the site on North Street.
It is believed the development will not provide any social housing in its current form.
Residents have been left confused by mixed messages from the new councillors, and are calling for clarity on their position and what action is being taken.
Former Conservatives Councillor, David Taylor, has submitted a request to meet with the new ward councillors and the relevant Cabinet member.
David Taylor said;
“This development will transform the area dramatically, and we hope for continued strong engagement with our new councillors.
I worked hard to represent the residents when their councillor, and secured regular meetings with both the developer and relevant council officers. We successfully secured a drop in the building height and a change in design.
We understand that Romford’s MP is all ears. However, he has no control over local planning matters, and it is the councillors we need engaged.
We have had multiple rumours about what our new councillors will support; we urgently need clarification. We are ready to meet!”

How can a nine story building transform the area dramatically at Como street? We have too many tower blocks going up around Romford.
