NewFamily-Friendly Diary of a Wimpy Kid Musical Premieres in Romford This August

OPENS AT ROMFORD’S BROOKSIDE THEATRE NEXT WEEK

TREAT THE KIDS THIS SUMMER HOLIDAY…

Families are in for a hilarious summer treat as DIARY OF A WIMPY KID THE MUSICAL opens at Romford’s award-winning Brookside Theatre next week.

Based on Jeff Kinney’s worldwide bestselling book series, the smash-hit musical brings Greg Heffley and his unforgettable classmates to life in a laugh-out-loud adventure packed with catchy songs, larger-than-life characters and plenty of heart. Whether you’re a lifelong fan of the books or discovering Greg’s world for the first time, this fun-filled production promises an unforgettable theatre experience for audiences of all ages.

Perfectly timed for the Summer Holidays, DIARY OF A WIMPY KID THE MUSICAL is the ideal family outing, offering a fantastic opportunity for children, parents and grandparents to enjoy live theatre together. With its relatable characters, hilarious situations and uplifting story about friendship, family and finding your place, the production is guaranteed to entertain from beginning to end.

To make visiting the theatre even easier for families, the Brookside Theatre has introduced a range of earlier performance times, allowing younger audience members to enjoy the show without a late finish. The revised schedule makes it the perfect daytime or early evening activity during the school holidays.

In another exciting first for the theatre, the production will also feature the Brookside Theatre’s first ever Relaxed Performance on Wednesday 12th August.

Relaxed performances are specially adapted to create a more welcoming and inclusive environment for audience members who may benefit from a less formal theatre experience, including autistic people, those with sensory sensitivities, learning disabilities, dementia or anyone who may find a traditional theatre setting overwhelming. During the performance, house lights remain slightly raised, sound effects are softened where possible, audience members are free to move around, make noise or leave and re-enter the auditorium if needed, creating an atmosphere where everyone can enjoy the magic of live theatre in their own way.

Jai Sepple, Artistic Director of the Brookside Theatre, said:

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be bringing Diary of a Wimpy Kid the Musical to Romford audiences this summer. It’s one of the funniest, most energetic family musicals around and the perfect way to spend time together during the school holidays.

We’re particularly proud to be introducing Relaxed Performances at the Brookside Theatre. We believe live theatre should be accessible to everyone, and for some people a traditional theatre environment can present unnecessary barriers. A Relaxed Performance removes many of those anxieties by creating a welcoming space where audiences can react naturally, move if they need to and simply enjoy the performance without worrying about theatre etiquette. We hope this is the first of many relaxed performances at the Brookside Theatre as we continue making our venue as inclusive and welcoming as possible for our whole community.”

Featuring a talented cast of young performers, spectacular musical numbers and all the humour that has made Jeff Kinney’s books a global phenomenon, DIARY OF A WIMPY KID THE MUSICAL is set to be one of the highlights of the Summer Holidays in Havering.

Tickets are on sale now, but audiences are encouraged to book early as performances are expected to be popular.
