Romford’s Brock Whiston Crowned Commonwealth Champion With Games Record Performance
Romford’s Brock Whiston has been crowned Commonwealth champion after producing a stunning performance to win gold in the SB8 100m breaststroke, smashing the Commonwealth Games record by more than four seconds.
Whiston, representing Team England at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, delivered a dominant swim in her specialist event on Monday, securing the gold medal in emphatic style and writing her name into the Games record books.
The victory is particularly impressive given the limited opportunities available to para swimmers at this year’s Games. Only seven para swimming events were included across 14 different classifications, meaning many athletes had little chance to compete in their preferred disciplines.
Earlier in the competition, on Friday, Whiston also stepped up to compete in the SM10 Individual Medley, racing in a classification above her own. Although it was not her main event, she produced another strong performance to reach the final, where she finished seventh.
Her decision to race up a class demonstrated both her versatility and determination, but her primary focus remained firmly on the SB8 100m breaststroke, where she once again proved she is one of the world’s best.
Whiston’s latest success adds another major title to an already remarkable career, having previously become a Paralympic champion in Paris. She can now proudly add Commonwealth champion to her growing list of achievements.
The Romford swimmer has become one of Havering’s most successful sporting stars, inspiring young athletes across the borough through her dedication, resilience and outstanding performances on the international stage.
