Hornchurch Nursery Celebrates Outstanding Achievement Following Ofsted Inspection

There was plenty to celebrate at Scallywags Nursery & Preschool in Hornchurch after the dedicated team achieved the highest possible outcome under Ofsted’s new inspection framework, receiving a Strong Standard in every area assessed.

The achievement follows an Ofsted inspection carried out on 4 June 2026, with staff, children and families all sharing in the celebrations after the glowing report recognised the exceptional care and education provided at the nursery.

Scallywags Nursery is currently one of only two early years settings to have achieved a Strong Standard across all areas, making the recognition an especially proud moment for the Hornchurch nursery.

At the heart of Scallywags’ approach is its forest school ethos, which encourages children to spend time outdoors every day, learning through nature, exploration, adventure and hands-on experiences.

Inspectors praised the nurturing environment created by staff, stating:

“Children thrive from the embedded curriculum and the calm, welcoming, nurturing environment provided by leaders and staff.”

The report also highlighted the nursery’s commitment to outdoor learning, adding:

“A forest school ethos has been created, which allows children to explore freely and lead play with a calm and reassured attitude.”

The inspection recognised the positive experiences of the children, describing them as happy, calm, confident and kind, while noting the strong foundations the nursery provides for their learning and development.

For the team at Scallywags, the report reflects years of dedication, passion and hard work, as well as the close relationships they have built with families and the wider community.

Speaking about the achievement, the nursery said it was an incredibly proud moment for everyone involved.

The nursery added that being recognised as one of only two settings to achieve Strong Standard across the board makes the achievement even more special.
