NewHavering Honours Our Armed Forces As Flag Raised To Mark Armed Forces Week

Havering has proudly raised the Armed Forces flag to mark the beginning of Armed Forces Week and to pay tribute to the men and women who serve, and have served, our country.

The Mayor of Havering, Councillor Maggie Themistocli, raised the flag during a ceremony outside Havering Town Hall in Romford on Monday 22 June.

Armed Forces Week is an annual opportunity for communities across the country to recognise the dedication, courage and sacrifice of those who serve in the Armed Forces, as well as veterans, cadets and military families.

Havering will continue its celebrations on Saturday 27 June with the borough’s annual Armed Forces Day Parade. The parade will begin at 10.30am at the junction of South Street and Arcade Place before making its way to Havering Town Hall.

The parade will feature serving personnel, veterans, cadets and Service families, all coming together in a show of pride and appreciation for the Armed Forces community.

This year’s parade is being supported by Elm Site Services.

Mayor of Havering, Councillor Maggie Themistocli, said:

“It is an honour to raise the Armed Forces flag today in tribute to His Majesty’s Armed Forces as it stands as a powerful reminder of the vital contribution of our troops.

“From those currently serving, to veterans, cadets and service families, we recognise the sacrifice, dedication and courage shown every day.

“Their commitment to protecting our nation, often at great personal risk, should never be forgotten.

“Havering’s appreciation for our armed forces remains as strong as ever, and flying this flag is a visible demonstration of our support for all servicemen and servicewomen across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.”

Mick Steel, Director of Elm Site Services, added:

“Elm Site Services are proud to support Havering’s Armed Forces Day Parade on Saturday 27 June.

“It is vital that we recognise the immense contribution our armed forces have made, and continue to make, in protecting our country.

“This event is an opportunity to show our gratitude and honour their dedication and sacrifice.”

Inspector Routley from Havering Police told the Havering Daily:

“It was a privilege to attend today’s Armed Forces Day flag-raising ceremony and to join our partners and local community in recognising the dedication, courage and sacrifice of those who serve and have served in our Armed Forces.

Armed Forces Day is an important opportunity to pay tribute to the men and women who have defended our country, as well as to remember those who displayed exceptional bravery and paid the ultimate price in service to others. Their commitment, sacrifice and sense of duty continue to inspire us all.

Havering Police are proud to support Armed Forces Day and to stand alongside veterans, serving personnel and their families in showing our gratitude and respect. We look forward to attending this weekend’s Armed Forces Day parade and celebrating the strong connection between our Armed Forces and the Havering community.”

The Armed Forces Day Parade has become a much-loved event in Havering’s calendar, bringing together residents, veterans and serving personnel to celebrate the Armed Forces community and recognise the enormous contribution they make to the nation.

Residents are encouraged to come along and show their support as the parade marches through Romford on Saturday.
