Gallows Corner has finally partially reopened after months of disruption, delays and frustration for motorists across Havering.

From yesterday, Sunday 10 May, sections of the major junction reopened to general traffic as Transport for London moved forward with a phased reopening of the road network following the completion of significant engineering and water works.

Drivers can now travel eastbound over the flyover from the A12 Eastern Avenue towards the A127 Southend Arterial Road. Straight Road and Main Road have also reopened in both directions, alongside access from the roundabout onto the A12 Colchester Road eastbound.

TfL says the reopening follows extensive technical and safety checks after months of major refurbishment works and complicated water main replacement operations carried out alongside Essex and Suffolk Water.

However, the junction is still not fully operational and several restrictions remain in place. The westbound flyover remains closed, as does access from the A12 Eastern Avenue eastbound onto the roundabout. Access from the roundabout onto the A127 eastbound also remains shut while final works continue.

The Gallows Corner closure has caused major disruption across Havering since works began, with residents and businesses repeatedly voicing anger over missed deadlines, congestion and long diversion routes.

TfL has said monitoring will continue closely as traffic gradually returns to the area, with contingency measures in place to respond quickly if further problems emerge.
