Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a reckless driver left three police officers injured in a collision in Rainham before fleeing the scene.

At around 16:40 on Friday 13 February, officers on patrol in a police vehicle began pursuing a grey Vauxhall Astra after it failed to stop and was seen driving erratically. During the pursuit the vehicle collided with other cars before crashing into the police vehicle on Mungo Park Road.

The driver then failed to stop, abandoning the damaged vehicle nearby and leaving injured officers behind.

Additional officers attended alongside paramedics from London Ambulance Service. Two male officers from the Roads and Transport Policing Command and one female officer from the North Area Command Unit were assessed at the scene. Their injuries are not believed to be life changing or life threatening.

The Vauxhall Astra was later found abandoned in the area. No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing as officers work to identify the driver responsible.

Acting Detective Sergeant Michael Carroll, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our investigation is continuing and we are now appealing for witnesses and those with any relevant information to come forward and help us establish the circumstances of what happened.

“We are particularly interested in any dashcam or local premises’ CCTV footage of the incident.”

Detectives from the Roads and Transport Policing Command are urging anyone with information or footage to contact police on 101 quoting CAD5514/13FEB26. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 55 111.
