‘We Need More Local Control With Power Restored Back to Our Community in Havering, Reform UK Will Give Local People the Right to Decide.’
The Member of Parliament for Romford has stated that the latest proposals from a London think tank for sweeping changes to the governance of “Greater London”, particularly that of cutting the number of London boroughs and reshaping local government structures, are entirely unacceptable, not least for communities such as Havering
At the moment, there is no active plan from central government to merge London boroughs or reduce their number as official policy. The Re:State report remains just a proposal for discussion, not a government commitment. However Mr Rosindell has long warned of what could happen to Havering.
“What it means is the abolition of Havering and Romford, Horchurch, Upminster and Rainham being merged into East London, losing our autonomy, identity and local control over our own affairs.
I am completely opposed to any suggestion that boroughs like Havering should be merged into ‘super Councils’. Such changes risk centralising power further in Sadiq Khan’s City Hall and the bureaucracy of the inner London dominated Greater London Authority.
What we need is more local control, with power restored back to our community in Havering.
Our borough already contributes tens of millions into the GLA while receiving far less in return for vital services, and residents feel this imbalance acutely. We are effectively subsidising inner London already.
If Havering is merged with Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge, Newham and whatever else, we will be paying even more to subsidise these boroughs.
Havering must have the right to determine its own future. Reform UK will give local people the right to decide.
No change should be imposed from the the government or Mayor without the clear consent of those who live here.
If we are serious about genuine devolution, then we must trust local communities to choose the path that best reflects their identity and interests. Havering deserves greater autonomy, not wholesale reorganisation dictated by London-centric elites.”
He added: “As the Reform UK MP for Romford, I will fight to save Havering from this catastrophic plan to abolish our local democracy!”

I don’t agree, the man just says what people want to hear, no explanation for how he’s going to fund any of it, he’s a trump wannabe and now linked with Epstein. He’s also vowed to keep fox and deer hunting and privatise the nhs. Disaster waiting to happen.
