Local Councillors and MP Slam Mayor Over Ongoing Gallows Corner Chaos.
The Marshalls and Rise Park Conservative Action Team, made up of Councillor Robert Benham, Bailey Nash-Gardner and Councillor Nisha Patel, along with Romford MP Andrew Rosindell, have written to London Mayor Sadiq Khan demanding urgent action over the ongoing disruption caused by the long-delayed refurbishment works at Gallows Corner.
In their letter, the team highlighted the severe impact on residents and businesses across Gidea Park and Rise Park. Daily traffic congestion has become a reality, with diversion routes forcing large volumes of traffic through residential streets such as Pettits Lane, Helmsdale Road and Main Road. These roads were never designed for such heavy use, resulting in visible damage and growing safety concerns.
Local businesses have also suffered, with reduced footfall, delayed deliveries and rising costs directly linked to the prolonged works.
The Conservative Action Team has called on the Mayor to answer three critical questions: whether compensation will be offered to affected businesses, what additional funding will be provided to repair roads damaged by diverted traffic, and when a definitive completion date for the project will finally be set.
While acknowledging the importance of improving safety at Gallows Corner, the team says the current situation is unsustainable. Residents deserve transparency, accountability and proper support.
Bailey Nash-Gardner told the Havering Daily:
“Residents have been extraordinarily patient, but enough is enough. The constant delays at Gallows Corner are damaging our roads, clogging up our neighbourhoods and making everyday life far more difficult than it should be. The Mayor must now take responsibility and provide clear answers.”
Andrew Rosindell MP added:
“Everyone understands that improving safety at Gallows Corner is important, but the lack of transparency and accountability is unacceptable. Residents deserve a clear, final completion date and reassurance that further delays will not be allowed to drag on indefinitely.”
The Marshalls and Rise Park Conservative Action Team has pledged to continue pressing both the Mayor and Transport for London until local concerns are fully addressed, ensuring the community receives the support and clarity it has long been waiting for.
