Two Hornchurch Car Parks to Close as Council Pushes Ahead with New Homes
Havering Council has confirmed that Keswick Avenue and Dorrington Gardens car parks in Hornchurch will close in 2026 to make way for new housing.
Keswick Avenue is set to shut in January 2026, with plans for six three-bed homes including off-street parking.
Dorrington Gardens will follow in March 2026, where a further 34 homes will be built by the council’s development company, Mercury Land Holdings, as part of Havering’s drive to boost local housing options.
Drivers will still be able to use Fentiman Way, Billet Lane and Appleton Way car parks, which will remain open. The Sainsbury’s and Lidl town centre car parks also stay available for customers.
Fentiman Way and Appleton Way are part of the new parking pilot scheme, set up to support traders and encourage people to keep shopping locally.
Havering Council leader Cllr Ray Morgon said the closures are part of a clear plan:
“Delivering new homes for local people is a top priority. These developments are an important step in meeting that need. At the same time, we’re working with residents and traders to make sure Hornchurch stays accessible and vibrant.”
Christopher Hobbs, Director of Mercury Land Holdings, added:
“We’re pleased to see progress on these sites. Over the last decade, MLH has helped transform Havering’s housing landscape, bringing residents more choice and better quality homes that suit their needs.”
