Neighbourhoods Chief Inspector Routley shares his New year’s Eve message in the Havering Daily.

As we come to the end of another year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the hard work, dedication, and partnership working that has shaped policing in Havering throughout 2025. This year, we have seen significant progress across our communities, strengthened relationships with residents, local businesses, and key partners, and continued collaboration that has enabled us to respond more effectively to local priorities.

Proactive operations across the borough have helped reduce crime and antisocial behaviour, and your Safer Neighbourhoods Teams and the Havering Joint Task Force remain committed to being visible, approachable, and responsive.

Across Havering in the last 12 months we have seen reductions in crime types such as Burglary, Robbery, Vehicle Crime and Shoplifting. Their tireless efforts ensure Havering continues to be a safe place to live, work, and visit.

I am incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together, and I want to thank all our residents for their support, trust, and willingness to work alongside us. Policing is at its most effective when we do it with our communities, not to them, and Havering continues to demonstrate what true partnership looks like.
Looking ahead to 2026, we recognise that challenges remain. But we are committed to tackling them head on, working closely with residents, businesses, and our partners to keep Havering safe

As we approach New Year’s Eve, I want to ensure that everyone celebrating does so safely. If you are heading out, please take a moment to plan ahead:

•       Plan your journey home in advance. New Year’s Eve is one of the busiest nights of the year—know how you’re getting home before you head out.
•       Pre-book cabs or licensed taxis. Avoid unlicensed vehicles. Use trusted apps or official taxi ranks.
•       Don’t drink and drive. If you plan to drink, leave the car at home. Use public transport, pre booked taxis, or a designated driver.
•       Look out for your friends. Stay together, check in on one another, and make sure everyone has a safe route home.
•       Stay aware of your surroundings. Keep valuables secure and remain in well lit, busy areas when possible.

Your safety is our priority. Our officers will be out across Havering throughout the night, supporting the community and ensuring everyone can enjoy the celebrations safely. If you see an officer out on New Years Eve please make sure you take the time to say hello
Thank you once again for your continued support. On behalf of Havering’s Safer Neighbourhoods Teams, I wish you all a safe, peaceful, and prosperous 2026.
