The Havering Asian Social and Welfare Association (HASWA) celebrated Diwali on the 1st November this year at the HASWA community centre in Greenfields, in Elm Park. HASWA members and the wider community came together, joined by the Deputy Mayor of Havering Councillor Barry Mugglestone, Councillor Stephanie Nunn, Enid Markham and Reverend Amanda Keighley, for an evening filled with joy, music and community togetherness.

The audience were entertained by the talented singer Anami Bose, who got everyone up out their seats and dancing with her Bollywood and Bhangra songs, adding to the festive spirit. Following a fantastic sing a long, the community then enjoyed a delicious spread of authentic Indian food, alongside the opportunity to part in an exciting raffle.

Mr Sansar Singh Narwal, Secretary of HASWA said the events like the Diwali celebration “promote better cultural understanding of Havering’s rich and diverse community.”

The evening was a wonderful celebration of light, culture and community spirit.

Well done to everyone at HASWA who do a truly amazing job in our community.
