HRA Councillors Demand Urgent Update on Gallows Corner Delays
Havering Residents Association councillors Philippa Crowder, John Crowder and Paul McGeary are calling on Transport for London (TfL) to stop delaying and provide residents with a clear update on when Gallows Corner will finally reopen.
The key junction, which connects several major routes through Romford, Harold Wood and Gidea Park, has been closed for months, causing gridlock, long detours and daily frustration for residents and businesses alike.
The councillors, whose wards surround the Gallows Corner area, say the ongoing closure has brought “absolute mayhem” to local roads, with many describing the situation as the worst traffic disruption in years.
Cllr Philippa Crowder said: “Residents are at breaking point. Every day, people are stuck in traffic for hours trying to get to work, do school runs, or reach local shops. TfL needs to stop hiding behind silence and tell Havering when Gallows Corner will be usable again.”
The HRA team has received a wave of complaints from residents struggling with congestion and long detours, while nearby businesses report falling trade as customers avoid the area.
Cllr John Crowder added: “This affects thousands of people every single day. It’s not just an inconvenience — it’s a major disruption to local life and the local economy. TfL owes residents transparency and a firm reopening date.”
Cllr Paul McGeary said: “Residents deserve clear communication and realistic timescales. TfL must take responsibility, keep Havering informed and get Gallows Corner moving again.”
At this week’s meeting with Havering council, the Transport Commissioner acknowledged the ongoing disruption and promised to share an official completion date for the Gallows Corner works next week. The HRA councillors said they will be holding TfL to that commitment and expect full transparency when the update is released.
The councillors have pledged to keep pressing for answers and will continue working with Havering Council to ensure TfL provides a full public update on the current state of the works, the causes of delay, and a confirmed reopening timeline.

Why does the TFL website still say that they have made good progress when the flyover is only half built and not a drop of tarmac yet on it. The lack of updates shows total disregard and contempt to the public.
