Vehicle Crime And Burglary Down Across Havering Following Proative Police Work.
As the darker nights draw in, South Havering Inspector Mark Connolly has praised the hard work of local officers after vehicle crime fell sharply across the borough — and urged residents to keep their homes and cars secure.
Inspector Connolly reported that motor vehicle crime across Havering has fallen by 34% compared with this time last year, thanks to the outstanding work of the Havering Joint Task Force, who have been actively targeting those committing car crime.
“These officers also focus on known burglars and prolific offenders,” he explained. “So far, 290 stolen vehicles have been recovered, three ‘chop shops’ have been shut down, and numerous individuals have been arrested or targeted for further investigation.”
Safer Neighbourhood Teams have also been focusing on hotspot areas across the borough. Work to combat tool theft remains ongoing — including property marking initiatives and the recovery of stolen tools.
Inspector Connolly urged residents to take simple steps to help protect their property.
“Please invest in a steering lock for your vehicle and, if you drive a keyless car, use a Faraday bag to block signal thefts,” he said.
He added that burglary across Havering has also fallen by 15%, thanks to the dedication and joint efforts of all policing teams and Havering Council’s enforcement officers.
“Please make sure your doors and outdoor buildings are locked, and keep valuables secure and out of sight,” he advised.
This is fantastic work by our local officers and as the darker nights draw in, please take steps to keep your vehicle and properties safe.
