On Thursday 23 October, the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal was officially launched at The Mercury Shopping Centre in Romford. Crowds gathered to hear moving speeches from Havering Mayor, Councillor Sue Ospreay, marking the beginning of this year’s remembrance campaign.

The British Legion Standard was proudly on display, joined by a group of supporting local councillors, standard bearers, Mercury staff, and British Legion volunteers.

Centre Manager Natalie Bays said:

“It is a pleasure to host such a worthy campaign year after year, as we continue to remember our fallen heroes. This event is close to the hearts of our community and customers, and we wish the Legion every success in their fundraising efforts this year.”

A permanent Poppy Appeal stand will remain at The Mercury until 11th November, offering poppies, crosses, badges, and more. Every penny raised will go directly to the Royal British Legion, supporting their ongoing work with serving and veteran members of the Armed Forces and their families.

The Member of Parliament for Romford, Andrew Rosindell MP told the Havering Daily:

“I am always proud to see the people of Romford supporting the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal with such enthusiasm and generosity. The funds raised make a real difference to the lives of our service personnel and their families, ensuring that their service and dedication are never forgotten.”.
