Residents in Rainham have raised strong objections to a proposed development in Glebe Road, submitting a petition signed by 57 locals who say the plans would harm the character of their neighbourhood.

A petition organised by Labour prospective councillors Sue Watson, Fay Hough and Mohammed Siddique has been handed in to Havering Council following growing concerns about overdevelopment in the area.

Residents have highlighted several key issues, including:

  • Overdevelopment of the site
  • The building being out of character with the existing street scene
  • Inadequate room sizes as shown in the submitted plans
  • Increased pressure on already limited street parking

Sue Watson said:

“With 57 signatures on the petition, it’s clear that residents feel strongly about protecting the character of their neighbourhood. We must prioritise keeping family homes in our communities.”

Fay Hough added:

“Everyone understands that we need more homes, but people deserve to have their concerns heard. South Havering is seeing new building, but existing residential areas need to be respected.”

Mohammed Siddique commented:

“As someone raising a family in Rainham, I was quite shocked to see the plan for a spacious garden turned into a rabbit warren. This is speculation for profit, not an honest attempt to improve the site, and I hope Havering Council reject it.”

The Labour team is calling on Havering Council’s Planning Committee to reject the application and preserve the property as a family home, in line with the wishes of local residents.
