Havering Police Hold Second Successful Tool Marking Event at Gallows Corner
Havering Police, alongside a wide range of partners, held another successful Tool Marking Event at B&Q Gallows Corner on Tuesday 7 October.
The initiative follows a similar event held over the summer and aims to help tradespeople protect their equipment by marking their tools and learning more about crime prevention.
The event was led by South Havering Inspector Mark Connolly, supported by Havering Enforcement Officers and a range of national partners including SelectaDNA, Rhino Trade Insurance, and CT1.
Inspector Connolly told The Havering Daily:
“Today marked the success of the second tool marking event at Gallows Corner B&Q Trade Event. The event was hosted by B&Q and included a selection of national partners.
“SelectaDNA Forensic Tool Marking were on hand to give away free kits and forensically mark tools for trades. The event was sponsored by the MPS and Havering Local Authority, who funded 125 kits for local tradespeople.
“CT1 and Rhino Trade Insurance were also on hand to give away free kits to non-residents and support other partners.”
Other partners in attendance included CT1 – The Snag List Eliminator, Trademark Digital, Powered Now, Armorgard Vehicle Security, Fix Radio, Dewalt, TVL Security, Valspar, The Gas Expert, and Franki from Stolen Tools UK.
In total, more than 45 kits were distributed during the day. With each kit able to mark up to 50 tools, that means over 2,000 tools were forensically marked as part of the initiative.
Inspector Connolly continued:
“The fight against tool theft is an ongoing concern not just for the MPS but for everyone who relies on our hardworking tradespeople. This is a national campaign that needs everyone working together to stamp out and eliminate tool theft.
“Through forensic property marking, the MPS is able to secure convictions against the people who commit these crimes. I want to extend my personal thanks to all the partners who attended this event and made it possible.”
He added:
“I would encourage any resident or local business to take two minutes out of their day and log onto www.metengage.co.uk. This gives residents the opportunity to have direct contact with their local team and hear about local matters that impact their community. Together we are stronger.”
