The fast thinking action of two Rainham PCSOs has saved the life of a pensioner who had collapsed and stopped breathing.

On Wednesday 10 September, PCSOs Julia Bates and Brian Sims were on patrol in the Celtic Farm Road area when they were alerted to a medical emergency. The officers rushed to the scene, where they found the elderly woman in need of urgent help.

Without hesitation, they began performing first aid and were able to revive her before paramedics arrived. Thanks to their swift response, the woman was responsive by the time London Ambulance Service crews took her to hospital. She is now doing well and recovering.

Chief Inspector Charlie Routley praised their life-saving work, saying: “Incidents like this demonstrate the importance of PCSOs being in the community, and how vital it is for them to maintain their emergency lifesaving skills. I am so proud of their fast-acting response which I have no doubt was instrumental in saving this woman.”

Their actions serve as a reminder of the dedication and vital role PCSOs play in protecting the Havering community every day.

Well done to Brian and Julia, they are two much loved PCSOs across their community.
