Havering Council Leader, Councillor Ray Morgon, has issued a strong warning to residents: patriotism should unite communities, not divide them.

Cllr Morgon urged people across the borough to show respect to one another and to council staff, as Havering faces growing tensions.

“Havering is a proud and patriotic borough which has always supported communities with few problems, and we want to keep things that way,” he said.

Flags, he added, can be flown with pride, but never used as a weapon.
“Nobody should use patriotism as an opportunity or an excuse to spread hate,” he warned.

The Council Leader also condemned shocking incidents of abuse aimed at staff just for doing their jobs.
“We have zero tolerance for that, and these people will be reported to the police,” he said. “It is simply unacceptable that staff be racially abused or assaulted when working for Havering residents.”

The Council says it will continue to work with local communities and Faith Leaders to ensure Havering remains a safe and inclusive place for everyone.

When we treat each other with respect, we reduce division.
When we act with fairness, trust grows.
And when we come together in unity, we make the country stronger than anyone of us could alone.
