Banging A Dish For 20 Minutes In A Police Officer’s Ear- A Pointless Protest That Summed Up The Challenges London Officers Face.
Eleven hours without a lunch break would you put yourself through that? The simple answer is police officers do it every day.
Across London, officer numbers are at crisis point. Front counters are closing, funding is vanishing, and yet the problem is ignored. Officers run from one emergency to the next, radioing in for a break only to drop it instantly when another urgent call comes in. They do it because that’s the job — but let’s be honest, no one else would tolerate it.
And then there’s the abuse they take. On Saturday, the capital was once again flooded with protests. One video shows a pensioner spending over 20 minutes banging a metal dish with a cooking utensil right next to an officer’s ear. No message, no sense, no purpose — just pure stupidity. What exactly did she achieve? Nothing, except making an already gruelling shift even harder for someone simply doing their job.
Officers have no canteens. No cosy kitchen to nip into. No fridge in the next room. They have to find an open food outlet, dodge the snide “sausage roll” or “Greggs” comments, and somehow grab a few bites before being called away again — all while the clock ticks through a shift that often stretches beyond 11 hours.
It’s always easy to target the police. They’re visible, they can’t walk away, and some people see them as fair game. But behind that uniform is a person — often tired, hungry, and putting themselves between the public and danger.
If you protest in London, focus on your cause. Don’t be ridiculous. Because while you’re pointlessly clanging a dish in someone’s ear, that officer could be responding to something — or someone — who genuinely needs them.

Fair enough, the individual was ‘over the top’ in banging the pan in the officer’s face. But how can you write this piece and not even mention what the demonstration was about? There aren’t any police protecting the Palestinians in Gaza who are being bombed every day and starved to death. And our government has made it illegal even to hold up a placard saying you support Palestine Action!
Palestine has nothing to do with us, They have been demonstrating for over a year and achieved nothing. If there that concerned about Palestine get a flight out there see how long they last.
