Romford Family Business established Nearly 50 Years Ago Pushed Out As Plans Put In To Redevelop The Site.
It was a sad day last Saturday 12th July when a small family business established for nearly fifty years in Romford closed for the last time.
“Wet Pets” at 71 Victoria Road, Romford, the aquarium and pond supplier owned by Mr Richard Holder and his family, had served the community of Romford and beyond since 1977. However, a change of landowner and plans for redevelopment of the site meant that “Wet Pets” and its neighbour “Twins” were forced to leave, despite a petition from local people to try to save them.
Councillor Judith Holt, the Conservative Ward Councillor for St. Alban’s Ward who helped with the petition, called in on Sunday to say good-bye to Mr Holder plus present him with a card and gifts to thank him for his years of loyal service.
” Another small business has gone from Romford – the small businesses the Labour Government love to tax,” lamented Councillor Holt. “It seems now that a children’s nursery will be opening on the site, rather than it being redeveloped with flats and houses. However, I’m pleased to say that “Wet Pets” and Richard will be moving to Hunters Chase Garden Centre, Hutton, Essex, CM13 1SN, so do call in if you’re that way. My grateful thanks to Richard and his family for their service to Romford over the last almost five decades.”
