Community Joins Forces to Launch Rise Park Wombles Litter-Picking Initiative
A brand new community-led litter-picking group has launched in Rise Park, aiming to keep local streets and green spaces clean and welcoming for all.
The Rise Park Wombles held their first clean-up on Saturday 5th July, focusing efforts on Moray Way — including the areas in front of and behind the local shops. The event saw around 15 volunteers come together, as well as support from Rob and Adam of the Romford Town Wombles.

The initiative was spearheaded by Karen and Rob Chesney, Cllr. Philippa Crowder, and local residents who wanted to take action after seeing growing litter issues across the area. Karen, who also runs the Rise Park Wombles Facebook group, hopes this will be the first of many successful events.
“We’ve had a really encouraging response from residents,” said Karen. “Lots of people thanked us and said they’d like to get involved next time.”

The group plans to meet on the first Saturday of each month, tackling a different area in Rise Park each time. With community spirit and growing volunteer numbers, they’re hoping to make a real difference throughout the year.
Anyone wishing to join future litter-picks can connect via the Rise Park Wombles Facebook group.
