Please see a further update from Havering Police following reports of an alleged Romford rape in a subway near the Brewery.

Superintendent Simon Hutchison, from the Havering neighbourhood policing team, said:

“We are aware of high community tension around a recent serious incident reported to have taken place in an underpass in St Edwards Way, Romford.

“Please rest assured, we have dedicated a considerable amount of time and resource on this investigation.

“A team of twenty detectives have reviewed over 300hrs of CCTV, conducted forensic analysis and have spoken to both the complainant and potential witnesses at length, as well as investigated any potentials links with other reported incidents.

“We have regularly updated local businesses and partners, and have supported the complainant and their family throughout. They are our priority.

“The investigation team are satisfied that, at this time, all lines of enquiry have been explored in order to minimise any wider risk to the community.

“Our duty remains to protect the public, and we are committed to conducting thorough investigations in order to bring perpetrators to justice and get violent or dangerous individuals off our streets.

“Over the coming days, local policing teams will continue to maintain a visible presence in the area to provide any support.
