Large Turn Out Of Residents Join In Public Meeting To Discuss New Proposals To Reopen Harold Wood Library As A Vibrant Hub Run By The Community.
On Tuesday 24 June, hundreds gathered in Harold Wood to discuss exciting new proposals to reopen the much loved Harold Wood library. The aim is to turn the hub into a community hub, led and run by residents who have formed the Harold Wood Foundation.
The library was a focal part of Harold Wood and much loved by all the community, especially schools who visited frequently. Its closure has left a big gap in the community and residents have rallied round to now fight to save it from developers turning into more flats.
On Tuesday evening, the Harold Wood Foundation led by Rachel Grimwood and joined by her local councillors Darren Wise, Brian Eagling and Martin Goode, who had fought endlessly to keep the library open. spoke to residents about the fantastic plans they have to reopen the library and develop it as a new hub for all.
Rachel told the Havering Daily:
“Despite the heat and heavy traffic, the Harold Wood Foundation welcomed 128 members of the community to a public meeting at St Peters Church to discuss an exciting proposal to reopen Harold Wood library as a vibrant community hub.
The atmosphere was positive and enthusiastic as the Foundation outlined plans aimed at supporting the wellbeing of local residents. The proposed project would transform the former library into a multi functional space for learning, support and connection.
The Foundation has submitted an application to have the building designated as an Asset of Community Value. A decision from the council is expected in July.
The meeting was well supported by local ward councillors, the headteacher of Harold Wood School and a representative from MP Julia Lopez’s office, reflecting strong community interest in preserving and revitalising this vital local space.”
