Pensioner Sadly Dies In Romford House Fire.
Sadly a man has died following a house fire on Belgrave Avenue in Romford this morning (30 April).
The ground floor and part of the first floor of an end-of-terraced house was damaged by fire.
One man was rescued from the first floor via an internal staircase by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene by the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service.
A woman left the property before firefighters arrived and she was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. A man at a neighbouring property was also treated for smoke inhalation.
The Brigade’s Control Officers received eight calls about the fire.
The first call was received at 04:40 and Control Officers mobilised five fire engines and around 30 firefighters from Harold Hill, Romford, Hornchurch and Dagenham fire stations to the scene. The fire was extinguished by 06:50.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and Metropolitan Police.
This is a very tragic incident.
Borough Commander Paul McClenaghan told the Havering Daily: “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the man’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
