Shoppers and passers-by at Rainham Tesco Extra have been treated to a roaring surprise this week, thanks to a fun and festive St George’s Day display organised by a newly formed community team.

Team RAW – made up of H.R.A. members Nikki Digby, Sue Ospreay and Sarah Edwards, along with friends – decided to bring a touch of joy to Rainham by creating an eye-catching installation featuring a not-so-scary, yet impressively large, red and yellow dragon standing over 8ft tall, accompanied by a much smaller St George.

The colourful characters have taken pride of place beside the community flower train, which has become a beloved landmark in Rainham. Known for its regularly changing themes, the train now proudly flies the flag for England – and it’s already proving to be a huge hit.

“We just wanted to do a little something to make people smile,” said one of the team. “It’s all about doing good in our neighbourhood and bringing people together.”

The display has attracted plenty of attention, with both young and old stopping to take photos with the friendly dragon and brave St George. It’s a great example of how a simple idea, carried out with heart and humour, can bring a community together.

The St. George’s Day flower train will remain in place throughout the week and is a must-see for anyone visiting the area.
