Figures Released Reveal Crime Has Substantially Been Reduced Across Barking And Dagenham.
Recent figures released by East Area Police have highlight a significant reduction in crime across most crime types including robbery, motor vehicle crime, burglary, knife crime and anti-social behaviour in Barking and Dagenham.
Robbery 12% Reduction
M/V Crime 16.1% Reduction
Burglary 11.9% Reduction
Knife crime 7.3% Reduction
ASB 6.9% Reduction
Core contributing factors to the decrease:
Increased focus on targeting offender – This year has seen officers focus on making arrests swiftly on those committing crime and ensuring police target those who are shown as wanted for outstanding crimes. Your local neighbourhood teams have some of the highest arrest rates across the Met.
Community behaviour orders ( CBO)– An approach which saw officers working to target persistent offenders and secureCommunity Behaviour Orders (CBO’s) from the courts. We have secured 14 CBO’s in the last 4 months and our approach highlighted as best practice across the Met.
Community engagement – Better engagement with communities by our ‘Meet Your Street’ strategy which sees officers visiting every road on the borough. We have also increased our footprint on social media on platforms such as X and WhatsApp, proving one of the highest engagement rates across the Met.
Technology – We have embraced Live Facial Recognition ( LFR ) and made over 40 arrests during 7 operations over the last 8 months. This sees police work precisely for community crime fighting.
Partnership – Working with partners such as the Local Authority including joint patrols to ensure we are co-ordinated in our approach to tackle crime and Anti-social behaviour.
Superintendent David Rhodes said:
“This year has seen real term crime reductions across key areas and I am proud of what the Neighbourhood teams have been able to deliver. There are less victims of crime in Barking and Dagenham this year which is testament to the hard work of the teams. I do not underestimate the concerns that communities have and that the fear of crime is real but your teams will continue to focus on community crime fighting to make the borough a safer place”
