Margaret Mullane, the Member of Parliament for Dagenham and Rainham has met the Chief Executive and Chair of North East London NHS Integrated Care Board on Friday 28 February to raise the need for investment in health services serving residents of Dagenham and Rainham.

The frustrations of patients of the Rainham Health Centre were relayed to the NHS officials about the decline in local services in recent years after the death of the much loved GP, Dr Abdullah. The problem has been compounded when the recently appointed primary health provider at Rainham announced they will be pulling out in August.

Margaret told the Havering Daily: “I made very clear that residents of Rainham and South Hornchurch have been badly let down over recent years in terms of GP and lack of local primary health care services.

I was pleased to be assured that Fay Hough, chair of the Rainham Patient Participation Group, will be included in the selection process for the appointment of the new provider. It was also encouraging that in response to my request that blood sampling be undertaken in future at the Rainham centre, the officials said this will be included in the specification for the new contract.

A local resident, Sue Watson, also raised with me the advantages of the centre being a GP training practice. Again, I was very pleased with the response to this. The officials will look into the possibility of this at either Rainham or the nearby newly created Beam Park Medical Centre.”
