Havering Council responds to possible closure of much loved Harold Hill youth club due to finance cuts.

Last week the Havering Daily ran a story on the cuts and possible closure of a youth club run at MyPlace, Harold Hill.

Youth club organiser Russell spoke exclusively to the Havering Daily about his funding concerns and the impacts it would have on the youth that attend this much loved club.

In response, Havering Council are working closely with Russell to try and resolve this situation.

A spokesperson for Havering Council said:

“We are working closely with the youth club leader to resolve the situation as we know the positive impact the club has had on young people in Harold Hill and the surrounding area.

“The Local Authority has met with the youth club organisers to discuss a safe and efficient reopening plan, and we are hopeful that an opening date can be agreed upon in the coming weeks.

“While we understand that the young people who attend the session are disappointed by the temporary closure, we are doing everything we can to reopen it while ensuring safety for all. We need to be certain that the club complies with safeguarding requirements.

“Once the safeguarding policies and risks assessments are in place, including having a third member of staff to ensure a safe ratio of adults to young people, we can look to reopening the club.

“As a local authority, we are committed to supporting community groups and volunteers to deliver provisions for our local communities. We’ve demonstrated this by allowing free access to the large games room, which includes table tennis, pool and snooker tables, each week.”
