Communities complaining about lack of visible officers on the streets. Be lucky we even have them to respond to emergency calls.

Knife crime is the taboo topic for most politicians, especially in London-hand in hand with the fact that due to budge constraints our police force is facing cuts. Cuts to what? When they are already stretched like a snapped rubber band. Ask most officers if there are enough of them to cover their tri borough and see the reaction for yourself. How can anyone justify cuts to our emergency services?

Between 2023/24 London recorded 15,016 knife and sharp object crimes. The number of knife crime incidents is increasing every year.

In England and Wales there were approximately 50,500 knife related offences between 2023/24. It is the norm. Every borough across London is used to dealing with knife crime and most officers would probably be more dismayed if there wasn’t a knife crime incident on their shift. It is simply out of control.

The social media footage below shows yet another machete being taken off a youth on the streets of London yesterday. The police having to display the weapon to the public, which is now having to be done to justify their arrest.

These are the weapons on our street now. These are the weapons our youths are using to kill each other. These are the weapons officers are challenged with everyday.

Yet very little is being done to stop this despite endless pleas from bereaved parents.

Frontline police officers are always first on scene to remove weapons, stop fights and provide vital life saving first aid. But, what will happen when further police cuts come into place? We know our police officers are already stretched and at breaking point. How can we lose more, when we have weapons like the ones below being so easily purchased and used?

If there was ever a time to fund policing correctly, now is that time. Instead what we have is the exact opposite. At this stage it really is irrelevant which party is to blame. Fund our police force.

Everyday across the capital their are police officers stretching an ever decreasing blanket that covers their area. Either your feet are covered and your body is cold. Or you body is warm and your feet are covered. What do you prefer? Are you getting the picture?

Remember this when your first thought is an abusive one towards an officer and remember that they are the very, very thin blue line out their doing their very best to protect the public risking their lives for us.
