A Year 6 pupil from Hylands Primary School launched a special petition last year in a bid to make Globe Road safer after a fellow pupil was injured in an accident involving a car.

Ronnie Anderson, supported by his friends met with St Alban’s ward Councillor Judith Holt to talk about the needs for better safety measures for pupils and parents walking to and from school.

At the last Full Council meeting on Wednesday 15 January, Ronnie was invited to the meeting by Councillor Holt to watch her hand over his petition to the Mayor-Councillor Gerry O’ Sullivan and then had a special guided tour and the opportunity to meet the Mayor in person.

Councillor Holt told the Havering Daily:

“I was delighted to welcome Ronnie Anderson, his mother and uncle to Havering Town Hall to the Full Council Meeting on Wednesday 15th January so he could watch her present his petition. As you will know from earlier posts, Ronnie was the brainchild behind the petition to try to get further safety measures near Hylands Primary School in Globe Road, Hornchurch, after a car accident to a child in November – and it got over 600 signatures! something which earned Ronnie a round of applause from the Councillors, which you rarely hear in the Council Chamber.”

Beforehand, Councillor Holt had arranged for Ronnie and his family to visit The Mayor of Havering Councillor Gerry O’Sullivan in The Mayor’s Parlour, which they very much enjoyed.

“We hope there is some further kind of safety measures the Council can undertake – if not, we will ask Andrew Rosindell M.P. for Romford if there are any changes which can be made at a higher level,” said Councillor Holt.
