Positive Police Results Decrease Robberies by 38%.
‘The work led by the local neighbourhood teams has helped reduce robbery in the area which means less victims of crime.’
Figures released by the police show the positive impact Barking and Dagenham officer’s have had in reducing robberies across the borough. A combination of enhanced police strategies from various policing units, alongside local authority and community partnerships, has contributed to this success.
Key Factors Behind the Decline:
Proactive Policing: Increased patrols and targeted weapon sweeps in high-crime areas and the use of predictive analytics have helped officers prevent robberies before they occur.
Community Engagement: Stronger relationships between police, local residents and businesses have fostered trust, encouraging more individuals to report suspicious activities.
Technology: Tools such as surveillance cameras, Live Facial Recognition operations, (ANPR) license plate recognition, and crime data sharing have aided investigations and deterrence.
As well as, making residents aware through their various communications channels any crime prevention advice around robberies, how to report and when the dispersal areas have been authorised.
Targeted Programs: Specific initiatives aimed at repeat offenders and policing hotspots have effectively disrupted criminal robbery patterns. This highlights tools such as the dispersal zones being put into immediate effect when required and targeted patrols by a collaboration of officers working together with the aim of making the borough safer – schools officers, Safer Transport Team, Burglary and Robbery Investigation team, Crime Enforcement Task Force, Barking Town Centre Team and Safer Neighbourhoods officers.
The 37.7% drop in robberies not only reflects successful policing but also enhances the overall sense of safety within neighbourhoods and improving quality of life. These results underscore the value of collaboration between local officers, community members in creating a safer environment for all.
Superintendent David Rhodes:
“It is important that people are able to feel safe when they go about their daily business. The work led by the local neighbourhood teams has helped reduce robbery in the area which means less victims of crime. We will continue our focus on what is a crime that can cause so much concern amongst our communities.”
