Dagenham and Rainham MP Welcomes Havering Funding Boost To Fix Potholes.
Margaret Mullane-the Member of Parliament For Dagenham and Rainham, has welcomed the Government’s announcement of a significant boost for fixing potholes and general highways maintenance in Havering and Barking and Dagenham.
For next year Havering Council has been awarded £1.08 million extra and Barking and Dagenham will receive a further £556,000 to deal with potholes. The Government at the same time revealed that for the period to 2033 further funding for repairing local roads is to be made. For Barking and Dagenham this amounts to £5.4 million and Havering’s allocation will be £10.4 million. This guaranteed long term minimum funding will allow councils to better plan their highways maintenance programmes.
Margaret told the Havering Daily: “This is much needed funding to help put right the years of neglect of our roads that will help prevent accidents to motorists and cyclists and cut down on the damage to vehicles going over potholes.
What with the freezing of fuel duty in the Budget, this commitment will be a real help to private motorists and commercial vehicles. I hope that the local councils will now be able to get on and plan and deliver road maintenance works that are so badly needed in our boroughs ”
