‘All We Read About Is The Negative Aspects Of Police-In Reality What We should be Doing Is Praising People Who Actually Do An Outstanding Job.’
“Everyday I read somewhere that policing must change, officers must do this must do that. There is always some aspect that vilifies these officers,” says William. “I can see in Havering, the struggles they face and how difficult their job is.”
William is a pensioner who has chosen to speak out in favour of our police officers after being thoroughly fed up with the continuous negative press they receive daily. “I think it is time people start speaking out in favour of all the hardworking officers there are across East Area section and London on a whole. I meet many when I am out in Havering and I always stop and thank them. Lately, so many look so sad truthfully when they respond. I know society changes and has to as that is how it works. But sadly, these people are repeatedly vilified for doing a job-let’s face it, not many of us would.”
William reached out to the Havering Daily to make his voice heard in the hope that others would also stand up and support officers.
“I read your articles that praise the work officers are doing across this area and I thought it was time someone spoke out for them. I understand that there have been numerous horrendous individuals, and they rightly need shaming. However, the same way we shame them, let’s praise the others doing this exceptional work, but we don’t. People are so quick to point the finger, but not quick to praise. Which is why I have come forward now.
“Not many remember a time when officers were regularly on our streets, when they were given the right respect. All we know now is lack of officers, this trend of filming with their phones when the police turn up and of course the abuse thrown at them.
“Imagine doing a vital job, where you are prepared to put your life on the line for someone who comes to you with abuse and spits at you? Most of us would walk the other way, yet they don’t. Our society has changed to a point where I don’t actually recognise what is going on at times.
“Pensioners face many challenges at the moment, especially with this government. As you get older you become more vulnerable and need to rely on the fact that we have a decent police force there that will help people like myself. I’m not sure that is the case now, not because of the officers, but because of those in decision making places that seem to penalise people like us.
“I would like to thank those who have chosen to be police officers for their work and really just let them know that there are many of us who are actually very appreciative of the work they do.
