EXCLUSIVE:’The Mayor of London has not provided Havering with the police coverage it needs, leaving our community feeling vulnerable’-Andrew Rosindell MP Calls For Debate On Police Reform Across London.
The Member of Parliament For Romford, Andrew Rosindell is calling on immediate action on police funding in Havering, hitting out at the London Mayor. “The Home Secretary and Mayor of London need to take immediate action to fix this imbalance and give Romford the police coverage it deserves. Our Community’s safety should not be compromised due to funding issues.”
Mr Rosindell has issued a statement highlighting the urgent need for increased police funding and resources in Havering, despite the commendable efforts of Superintendent Simon Hutchison and his team in reducing crime rates.
“Despite the hard work of Superintendent Simon Hutchison and his team, who have achieved notable reductions in crime, our community is still suffering from a lack of adequate police coverage,” said Mr Rosindell. “The statistics show reductions in robbery by 14%, violence with injury by 26%, motor vehicle crime by 15%, and residential burglary by 5%.”
Mr Rosindell emphasised that these successes are overshadowed by the broader issue of insufficient funding and resources. “The Mayor of London has not provided Havering with the police coverage it needs, leaving our community feeling vulnerable. This is unacceptable.”
Local residents, according to Mr Rosindell, may find it hard to believe that crime has decreased, given the visible strain on police resources. “We need increased funding and support for neighbourhood policing to ensure our community feels safe. The current funding shortfall of approximately £4.5 million only makes things worse.”
Earlier this month, Mr Rosindell urged the Leader of the House of Commons to have a debate on police funding reform. He expressed his satisfaction that she has written to the Home Secretary forwarding his remarks. “The Home Secretary and the Mayor of London need to take immediate action to fix this imbalance and give Romford the police coverage it deserves. Our community’s safety should not be compromised due to funding issues.”
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to fighting for the local area stating “I will continue to fight for the resources and support that Romford needs to ensure a safe environment for all residents. It’s time for all stakeholders to come together and work towards a solution that prioritises our town and borough’s well-being.”

Andrew Rosindell M.P.’s question in the House of Commons on 5th December 2024
“Despite the valiant effort of Superintendent Simon Hutchison of Romford police, who does a superb job looking after my constituency, in the London borough of Havering we do not get the police cover that we pay for. The Mayor of London is not being fair to Romford. Will the Leader of the House ensure that we have a debate about police reform in the Greater London area, so that places such as Romford get police on the streets, looking after the community?”
