The Mardyke Community Centre was filled with festive joy on Friday evening as locals gathered for its annual Christmas tree lights switch-on event.

The event saw families and residents come together to celebrate the start of the festive season. The Newtons Primary School Choir opened the event with a heartwarming performance of Christmas carols, entertaining the crowd with their festive melodies.

Guests were treated to fun and laughter with appearances from The Grinch and a reindeer, who delighted children and adults alike by posing for photos and spreading Christmas cheer.

Margaret Mullane, Member of Parliament for Dagenham and Rainham, was on hand to officially switch on the sparkling Christmas tree lights, marking the highlight of the evening.

The celebration was supported by several sponsors, including The Havering Daily, Wanis, the London Riverside BID, and the various clubs and groups based at the community centre. Their contributions helped ensure the success of the much-loved event.

Centre Manager, Lesley Blowers, shared her thoughts on the evening, stating, “This event brings the community together every year, and it’s a wonderful way to kick off the festive season. Thank you to all of the centre staff, volenteers, and sponsors that make this event possible.”
