A two-year redevelopment project at New City College Ardleigh Green will transform the campus and its buildings to provide facilities that are fit for the future learning and training needs of students and the local community.

The proposals support New City College’s mission to offer a high-quality vocational curriculum that prepares young students and adults with skills for success in the world of work.

A public exhibition is being held where neighbours and stakeholders are invited to view the plans, see what the finished campus will look like, and have their say.

The exhibition will be held at NCC Ardleigh Green Campus on:

Monday 18 November – 10am to 4pm

Tuesday 19 November – 2pm to 6pm

The external and internal refurbishment project will create new-look, attractive buildings that will enhance the local area and provide learning zones with cutting-edge technology.

Subject to plans being approved, the contemporary design will be aesthetically pleasing and sustainable, with the internal layout of the College improved and classrooms upgraded.

Other proposed improvements include:

• New-look main building facing Ardleigh Green Road which will harmonise the building within an open, landscaped area with pedestrian access, creating a focal entrance point to the College

• Floor to ceiling windows, optimising natural daylight

• Creation of landscaped courtyard within the heart of the campus, including ball court, performance space, seating and biodiverse planting

• New Learning Resource Centre, canteen and high-quality teaching spaces

• Third floor extension

• Energy-efficient ‘green’ heating system

The redevelopment is essential to improve the condition of buildings, some of which have poor energy efficiency and require constant maintenance.

The revamped campus will be high quality and in keeping with modern day standards so that students and the community continue to have the best possible educational experience.

The works are planned to take place over a phased two-year period in order to minimise disruption to residents and all building materials will be stored onsite to further decrease any disturbance to close neighbours.

Ardleigh Green Campus Deputy Principal Jonathan Briggs said: “The Ardleigh Green Campus already delivers a high-quality and dynamic vocational curriculum which results in students gaining not only qualifications, but also the transferable skills needed for progression into industry and employment.

“The redevelopment project will ensure that the college’s buildings and student spaces are designed to house industry-standard equipment and provide flexibility to keep up with meeting local, regional and national skills needs.

“We want to support and grow our local businesses by providing a pipeline of future talent from Ardleigh Green.”

The public exhibition will enable residents to learn about the proposals and make comments ahead of any formal submission of a planning application later this year.
