Heartfelt Knits Campaign: Local Knitters Spread Warmth Across Communities

The Nimble Fingers knitting group, based at Eastern Avenue Baptist Church in Chadwell Heath, continues to bring warmth and comfort to those in need through their knitted hearts campaign.

The dedicated group, which meets every Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm, has been crafting a variety of handmade woollen items, including adorable hearts, teddies, hats, and blankets, to be donated to Queen’s Hospital in Romford. Their acts of kindness have now reached people as far as Scotland and Brighton, showcasing how a small group of dedicated individuals can make a big difference.

One of the recipients shared a deeply touching story about how the knitted teddies became a lifeline for her family during a difficult time. “My sister and her children each received a matching teddy when she had a brainstem stroke in August 2023. These teddies became a link, allowing them to connect with her in a way that words couldn’t. They each placed the teddy to her lips and kept it with them as a reminder of their bond.”

Nimble Fingers welcomes both new and seasoned knitters who would like to join the campaign. Whether you’re an experienced knitter or just picking up your first pair of needles, the group provides a supportive space for everyone to create and socialize.

Activities Beyond Knitting: Join Carpet Bowls Tuesdays

For those looking to get out of the house and try something new, the church also offers Carpet Bowls every Tuesday from 2pm to 4pm. It’s an enjoyable, beginner-friendly game, and all equipment is provided. Joyce, Kathleen, and Marilyn are available to help newcomers learn the ropes, so it’s a great way to stay active and meet new friends in a welcoming environment.
