Dagenham and Rainham MP intervenes to to get repairs undertaken to traffic lights at Cherry Tree.

Margaret Mullane the Member of Parliament for Dagenham and Rainham has intervened to get repairs carried out to the traffic lights at the busy junction at the Cherry Tree Rainham. Margaret was contacted by residents and road users about deliberate vandalism to the traffic lights and the mayhem that has resulted.

It was reported to the MP that anti ULEZ vandals had damaged the lights on Sunday 27 October and within an hour the first accident occurred at the junction.Despite reports of the problem to the Council and Transport for London, nothing had been done to resolve the problem for almost one week. However, following the high level interventions from the Labour Member of Parliament, the works were completed on Friday 1 November. 

Margaret told the Havering Daily: “These irresponsible vandals have caused accidents that have put drivers and pedestrians at risk and have caused major traffic congestion. As soon as I was made aware of this I contacted Havering and TfL to get this problem sorted as a matter of urgency.

I was disappointed by the lengthy delay to the essential works, so I escalated this to the Deputy Mayor of London for Transport and called on him to get the repair undertaken. I also want the Police to get to grips with these vandals and bring them to book.

I use this junction on a regular basis and was relieved to see that the works had been finished on Friday evening, but I have to say that the delay was unacceptable at such a busy and potentially dangerous junction.”
