Havering Council raise flag to celebrate ‘Essex Day’.
‘Let all Romfordians and people across Havering, proudly celebrate our place within the Essex family. Essex we are, Essex we stay!’
The Essex flag was raised last Friday 25 October outside the Town Hall in Romford to commemorate ‘Essex Day’.
Havering Mayor Councillor Gerry O’ Sullivan raised the flag alongside the Member of Parliament for Romford, Andrew Rosindell, Havering and Redbridge GLA Member Keith Prince, local councillors and Manjit Singh a local community champion.
Mr Rosindell told the Havering Daily:
“Happy Essex Day to everyone from Romford and Hornchurch and throughout our magnificent County! How wonderful to see the flag of Essex proudly flying in front of the Town Hall on this important day for all the people of Essex. For over eight-hundred years, Romford has remained a proud and vibrant market town within the historic English County of Essex. Romford may sit (for the time being) within the administrative region of ‘Greater London,’ but we share the same history, geography and culture and have greater connections with places like Basildon, Brentwood, Chelmsford, Southend, Chigwell and Thurrock. So today, let all Romfordians and people across Havering, proudly celebrate our place within the Essex family. Essex we are, Essex we stay!
