Andrew Rosindell MP told the crowd :”This is a significant day and a significant moment for our nation as we remember those who fought and died for the freedom of our country.

“The Poppy Appeal is so vital because the money raised goes to those who have given us the freedom and liberties that we enjoy today. Sometimes in which today we sadly take for granted.

“Democracy isn’t free, it has to be fought for, defended and cherished. I thank all the veterans in Havering who have fought many battles and those who in the future will choose to do so. We stand with them, we salute them and we thank them for all they have done for our country.”

The Member of Parliament for Romford Andrew Rosindell addressing the crowd.

Councillor Barry Mugglestone told the Havering Daily:

“Today was the Launch of the Poppy Appeal across the country, and it was pleasing to see all the Branch volunteers in Havering  giving up their time to raise money for this important cause.  Volunteers who give support for our ex-service and current and future Service personnel who keep us all protected across the World. I wish all the Branches across Havering a safe and successful Poppy Appeal,  please keep up the good work especially this year, 80 years on since D Day.   This Year the appeal will focus on the mental scars suffered by our Brave Armed Forces.

Well done to Spencer and Natalie from the Mercury who do a truly fantastic job and are such a vital part of our local community.

They told the Havering Daily:

“It is an honour to be the home of the official launch of the British Legion’s Poppy Appeal in Romford; and we are especially pleased that our community at The Mercury can play a part in supporting the fundraising activities of this important charity. The centre team are happy to welcome the Legion to the centre every year, and as always we hope that the poppy appeal is a huge success in the borough.”
