Behind Enemy Lines: SOE Agents & French Resistance WWII Exhibition a Success
Last weekend, the Ingrebourne Valley Nature Discovery Centre, in conjunction with historian Kim Smith, hosted Behind Enemy Lines: SOE Agents & French Resistance – a remarkable WWII exhibition and book-signing event.
The exhibition, which took place on the 12th and 13th of October, gave visitors a unique insight into the brave men and women of the Special Operations Executive (SOE) and the French Resistance, who risked everything working in German-occupied Europe during the war.

Attendees were able to explore an array of spy gadgets and weapons used behind enemy lines, as well as learn about the daring operations carried out by these courageous individuals. Historian Stuart Outred was present, signing copies of his new book on SOE Agent Violette Szabo, who became one of the most notable figures of the war.
The event also featured insights from historian Paul Hunt and participation from The Royal British Legion, The Blenheim Society, The Spitfire Society, and various military vehicles, making it a comprehensive look at the era.

The exhibition, which was well-attended, ran from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm each day, and a portion of the proceeds from the event were donated to the Essex Wildlife Trust. Visitors left with a greater appreciation for the sacrifices made by these unsung heroes.
For those who missed it, the Discovery Centre plans to continue offering similar events in the future.
